Design of a Compact Grinding Machine

This project aims to design and develop a compact grinding machine that can be used by households. Among key aspects for this category of users include low or affordable cost, compact, portable or low footprint, ergonomic and support multiple modes of operation.

With the restriction of movement impacting societies worldwide following lockdowns to curb or contain the spread of the coronavirus pandemic, the availability and cost of tools are among some of the concerns of the public and industries, either for commercial or maintenance purposes. Commercial grinding or polishing machines are usually expensive, large and heavy – hence, immobile and require considerable space for storage and operation. On the contrary, handheld grinders or polishers offer portability but rather difficult to achieve a level surface after the process and may require additional utility such as compressed air for operation. This project aims to design and develop a compact grinding machine that can be used by households.
