Design of a Planter Box with Dual Light Source

This project aims to design and develop a planter box that supports dual light source with urban households as the primary target users. Apart from investigating the impact of dual lighting sources on plant growth, other considerations are to improve on the aspects of total cost, consumable resources, and footprint.

With limited and dwindling arable land, competition of resources such as water and unpredictable weather patterns, conventional agricultural methods struggle to feed the ever-rising global population. While indoor urban farming appears to be one of the many possible solutions, this farming method is cost prohibitive due to energy cost of artificial lighting to support plant growth indoors. This project aims to design and develop a planter box that supports dual light source with urban households as the primary target users. Following the initial or preliminary design of the planter box, subsequent design changes are to be made to improve on the aspects of total cost, consumable resources, and footprint.
