About the Project

Uniting Migrants Initiative (UMI) is a Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) which aims to build a platform that can provide legal aid, education camps and job recruitment for migrant workers. Our aim is to unite all migrant workers in Malaysia to solve the problems of discriminations and abuse of illegal labour. We believe that with the proper aids from UMI, we can provide a better working environment and wages for the migrant workers.

Malaysia is home to almost 3.43 millions migrant workers but regrettably, their human rights are often undermined by the Malaysian government and society. That said, the background of our project stemmed from the deep, unmet needs faced by the migrant workers in Malaysia to have a platform to search for potential employers, acquire skills training and legal aid. Our main objective is to ensure that all migrant workers are able to seek jobs and lead a stable life in Malaysia without being exploited. Our project addresses two UN SDGs, which are decent work and economic growth followed by peace, justice and strong institution. Our expected deliverable is a website that provides for three main services, which are job vacancies, skills training and legal aid.
